OSRS 1 to 99 Hunter Guide

Hunter is quite a complicated non-combat skill in the game, but the adventures it holds are wonderful and worthwhile. As it was introduced, many old players returned to embark on the journey to hunt in different parts of Gielinor.

With a number of options, or should I say beasts to hunt from, players often get confused on their way to maxing out. However, lucky for you, we have decided to create a guide to make things simpler.

Hunter Essentials

To get started with Hunter, you’ll need the following. Access to Fairy Ring transport (Fairy Tale 2), Small Fishing Net, Rope, Bird Snare, Box Trap, Butterfly Net, and Butterfly Jar.

Level 1 to 9

For the early boring levels, you can skip them by speaking to Orlando Smith at the Varrock Museum. You’ll need to answer 3 questions correctly about each of the displays. You can also Google the answers as they’re pretty straightforward.

Level 1 to 7 (Alternate)

Alternatively, you can start catching Polar Kebbits. They are located northeast of Rellekka (Snowy Hunter Area). You can either use a Camelot Teleport and walk there or use the Fairy Ring transport. A good recommendation would be to use the Ring of Pursuit to speed things up.

Level 7 to 15 (Alternate)

At level 7, you can switch to Feldip Weasels. It’s a faster way than catching Copper Longtails. They are located in the Feldip Hunter Area. You can use a Gnome Glider or a Ring of Dueling to get there.

Level 9 to 15

If you have access to the Fairy Ring transport, then use code AKQ to teleport to the Piscatoris Hunter Area. Here’s where you’ll be catching Copper Longtails until level 15. It’s a slow start but hang in there for the first few levels.

Level 15 to 33 or 37

Grab your Butterfly Nets and Jars, and then head back to the Piscatoris Hunter Area. Now, you’ll be catching Ruby Harvests at their spawn point. You can always catch Butterflies and Copper Longtails simultaneously to increase your XP gain.

Level 33 to 37 (Alternate)

From 33 onwards, you can either continue with Butterflies and Longtails or switch to Barb-Tailed Kebbits. You can also consider catching Crimson Swifts instead, which is a quicker method than the others.

Level 37 to 59+

At level 37, you can consider switching to Kebbits, which means you’ll be in the Piscatoris Hunter Area for the next 20 levels. Make sure you bring a Knife, 1000+ OSRS GP, and a Chisel (if you want to fletch Kebbit Bolts). Kebbits take time to capture so you can bring a Butterfly Net/Jar to keep earning XP.

Start with Prickly Kebbits and Deadfall Traps till level 43, and then switch to catching Spotted Kebbits with Falcons. At level 57, you’ll be able to add Dark Kebbits to your prey list for an XP boost. It’s a much faster way than catching Salamanders of any kind. You can stick to Kebbits till you’re 80, or approach other beasts.

Level 59 to 80 (Alternate)

Until level 67, a good and considerable option would be Red Salamanders; however, the Ourania Cave that they reside in is mostly crowded and you can’t teleport there. But you can always make enough RS Gold through this method.

Make sure you have Ropes and Nets on you before traveling there. You can reach the Ourania Cave through the Khazard Battlefield teleport. With 3 to 4 traps placed at a time, you can get about 50 to 100k XP per hour.

You’ll have a far better experience doing this with the Graceful Outfit. Now, starting at level 67, you can start catching Black Salamanders for better XP. They are located north of the Chaos Temple (Wilderness). Please be aware of Player Killers wandering around waiting to hunt others.

Level 80 to 99

If you’re looking for really good profit while training the skill, then you should switch to Red Chinchompas at level 80. They have a high market value because of how they’re used during Ranged training. Do note that you’ll first need to complete Hard Western Provinces Diary to access the hunting grounds.

Level 80 to 99 (Alternate)

You can always take an alternate approach, which is to track Herbiboars on Fossil Island. But you’ll first need to complete the Bone Voyage quest. This method can get you about 150k XP per hour.

Another alternative at level 80 is catching Maniacal Monkeys, which is more of an AFK method. The training process may be slow but it’s good if you like multi-tasking and dislike click-intensive methods.

Level 73 to 99 (Alternate)

At level 73, you can also catch Black Chinchompas in the Wilderness. However, it’s risky because of the Player Killers wandering around. It’s one of the best ways to earn OSRS Money from the Hunter skill. You can make about 125M if you continue Black Chins all the way to level 99.

Level 5 to 99 (Alternate)

Starting from level 5 itself, you can do Birdhouse Runs all the way to level 99. It’s a longer approach in terms of time, but you can always focus on other tasks or skills while doing your runs. The profit is pretty decent too.
